We encourage all practitioners to take advantage of training opportunities. The Georgia Forestry Commission’s Prescribed Burn Manager Certification is highly recommended. This course is offered to all practitioners and individuals and offers a comprehensive instruction on subjects such as fire behavior, fire weather, and fire tactics. To become a certified prescribed burner in Georgia, one must pass a written test and meet a prerequisite of having been in charge of five prescribed burns.
Organizations and partnerships offer unique training opportunities on fire, like Landowner Workshops, Learn and Burns, Live Fire Demonstrations, and Field Trips. Some examples include the Chattahoochee Fall Line Prescribed Fire Cooperative and The Longleaf Alliance.
